Basic Cake Decorating – Borders

My basic cake decorating class happened to start on my birthday, which meant my day was too busy to get any cake batter pancakes. But, since it was my first pastry class, I have to admit I was pretty excited!

It’s a four and a half hour class, which meant that after we discussed our book and syllabus, we had plenty of time to practice a few different border techniques: shells, C-border, reverse scroll, rosette, zigzag, and rope (which I loathe.) I also have to admit that I love a class where my homework is to bake two 8″ cake layers and prepare a batch of icing!
